We left the school at 9:30 and the tournament stared at 10:00.
The B team played first but they lost their first match. Unfortunately the B team lost all of their games in a very tough group. The A team played their first game against Maynooth BNS and we won 2-0. We then played St Joseph's BNS and won 4-0. Then we played Scoil Phadraig Naofa and won 4-2. We got out of our group into the semi final where we won 2-1 against Patrician Primary. Then in the final we played Athy and won 1-0. This means that we are through to the Mid-Leinster finals in April. Well done to everyone involved. Article by John M.

Last month our class walked down to the K'Nex workshop in Naas Library. When we arrived we headed upstairs. There was a man with about 8 buckets of K'Nex. We sat down at the tables. The man told us about his job as an engineer. He told us about Masdar City, an awesome-looking city in Abu Dhabi. This city is so futuristic because you travel around the city in these vehicles called POD cars. After he spoke he handed out two buckets of K'Nex to each table. We started building cars, aeroplanes, helicopters, houses-you name it really. I built the coolest car in history, wait for it....the McMobile! I built a huge seat, a steering wheel, a sturdy body and everything a K'Nex car should have. After a lot of building, of course, I had to dismantle it. It was great fun and if I had a choice I'd go again.
Written by Paddy McMahon, 5th Class. Ceolchoirm2015 from St. Corban's B.N.S. on Vimeo. On Thursday the twelfth of February, an engineer came into St. Corban's to talk to the 6th classes about what it is like to be an engineer and what engineers do. He introduced himself as Michael Regan and went on to show us a picture of a house on the whiteboard. He asked us if there was any problems with the house. A lot of the lads agreed that the foundations didn’t look steady. Michael said that this was correct and showed us a representation of the house. A brick represented the house and there was a sponge underneath the brick to represent soft ground. Underneath the sponge was the teacher’s desk, which represented the hard ground. He showed us that when the heavy brick was placed on top of the soft sponge, the sponge sagged but the table didn’t react. This is what would happen if a house was built like the plans he had shown us. Then he went on to stick a couple of pencils into the sponge and placed the brick back on top. This time the sponge didn’t sag. This is because the pencils were transferring the weight of the brick to the desk. He explained to us that this is what the foundations of a building look like (in a simple form). That was only one of the projects in a very fun talk that I think all the boys enjoyed very much. Everyone was extremely engrossed in the talk and had a good time. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that in 10 years some of the pupils have gone on to become engineers. Ms. Foley's 2nd class enjoying World Book Day on Thursday. The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has introduced a new, free service in response to a frightening statistic that shows that as many as 3 out of 4 child car seats are incorrectly fitted which can result in serious injury or worse, a fatality in the event of a collision. Since October 2013, the RSA’s ‘Check it Fits’ Service has checked over 4,000 child car seats and restraints in Ireland. Of these, 83% required some adjustment. Worryingly, 79% of seats required a major adjustment, of which 3% were deemed not fit for purpose and condemned, meaning they could have caused injury or even death in the event of a collision. The ‘Check it Fits’ Service is a full-time, nationwide, free expert service which aims to put parent’s, grandparent’s and guardian’s minds at ease that their child’s car seat is safely and securely fitted in their car. The service is quick, it’s easy, it’s free and it has arrived in Kildare where our experts will advise on how to fix any problem, demonstrate how to fit the restraint correctly and answer any queries participants might have. We will be visiting the following location in Kildare in March: Naas SuperValu Fairgreen, Naas. Thursday 12th March 10:00 am - 5:30 pm |
