Our quiz teams have been competing in the Credit Union Schools Quiz 2014. Both teams (U11 & U13) have done brilliantly so far and are through to the All Ireland Final to be held on April 6th in the RDS. Well done to all the boys and to Ms B Dunne and Mr O'Reilly for preparing them so well. U13 team: Jack, Hugh, Joe, Dylan. U11 team: Joe, Robert, David, Matthew.
On Wednesday 29th May representatives of the Credit Union came into the school to present 4 boys with a trophy. The 4 boys were David Kiely, Kevin Singleton, Seán Usher and Cormac Dempsey and they were being awarded this trophy for winning the All Ireland Credit Union Schools Quiz.
Ms. B. Dunne spoke about what they would be doing during the presentation and then Mr. Drewett gave a speech to thank the boys for representing their school and to congratulate the boys on their tremendous achievement. Then finally a Credit Union representative spoke and presented the boys with certificates. The two teachers, Ms. Dunne and Mr. O'Reilly, were also given a bunch of flowers and a sculpture of a blackboard with the word "Champions" etched into it. Then when the presentations were over, everyone assembled in the middle yard for a photo for the Leinster Leader. The presentation then came to a close. It was a great day. There was tension in the air as the finalists and their enthusiastic supporters gathered in anticipation of an enjoyable and competitive quiz. Under the watchful eye of Quiz Master – Marty Whelan, the calls of encouragement from parents, grandparents and teachers were quickly quietened as the teams got down to serious business! It was a nail biting final few rounds but in the end it was our own St. Corban’s who triumphed in the U 13 competition. The winning team were David Kiely, Seán Usher, Cormac Dempsey and Kevin Singleton. The team were prepared for the event by Ms. Breeda Dunne and Mr. Michael O’Reilly.
The school has a very proud tradition in quizzes and in fact the St. Corban’s U11 team also won the local area level quiz in 2013. That team were Dylan Stewart, Owen Sheridan, Tom O’Sullivan and Joe Morrin. Ms. Dunne has prepared many quiz teams over the years and is aware of the hours of hard work put in by the boys and their parents. Hopefully this is the first of many All Ireland titles for Kildare this year! |
