What happens when you mix a base with an acid?
1 papier maché volcano
Washing up liquid (to make it bubbly)
Small amount of warm water
First, in a jar you mix the baking soda and water. Then you add the food colouring and the washing up liquid. You pour the mixture into the volcano. Add the vinegar and stand back!
The baking soda (base) and the vinegar (acid) reacted with each other and caused it to rise and overflow over the side of the volcano. We got to have a second try and added more of everything except water and the effect was much better!
