Good morning everyone! Well boys, you have made it to the end of your first week submitting work through Seesaw. I am so very proud of you all! You have learned new skills this week including uploading videos, photos and voice notes and I have been blown away by your work. I know that you had some help to do this, so be sure to thank Mam or Dad for their help and give them the biggest hug!It was wonderful seeing you on our Zoom call yesterday. For anyone who missed the call, don't worry. We will meet again next Thursday for more fun and games!

Parents, I want to thank you all for your hard work again this week. I know that there is a lot of juggling and plate spinning going on at the moment for you all and it is not easy. However, you are all doing a wonderful job. Thank you for your efforts in making the switch to Seesaw. It has been great for me to see all of the boys' work coming through and to be able to give some feedback to the boys on their work. Today is the last day that I am posting work to the school website and it will be on Seesaw only from next week. The work I have posted to date, will remain here for a while for you to access in case you want to or need to. If you haven't already done so, please send your son's work through to me using Seesaw so that I can give him feedback. Have a lovely weekend!

Tuesday 19th May

Hi boys! A massive well done to you and your mams and dads for using Seesaw yesterday so well. I was so happy to see your videos coming through to my account and it was lovely to see you all. It was also great to get the chance to listen to each of you telling me your news. You have another task to do with seesaw today. You are going to come up with some words from the -ot word family and record yourself reading them for me. I can't wait to hear your words. Good luck!

Parents, if there is anything that you need please just let me know. I am organising another Zoom call this week for anyone who would like their son to take part. Please confirm by email or by messaging me through Seesaw if you would like me to send you the link for the call. It will take place this Thursday at 11:00am. Looking forward to it. :-)

Monday 18th May 2020

Good morning everyone! Boys, I hope you enjoyed your weekend. This is a very exciting week for you! You will be using Seesaw to send me some of your work for the first time. I can't wait to see it! I have recorded a little message for you on Seesaw. Have a listen there! Looking forward to seeing you all again on Zoom this week. :-)

Mams and dads, I hope you are all well too and that you enjoyed your weekend. A bit of good news for you! As you know, from this week on, the whole school will be using Seesaw to upload work. For this reason, the decision was made for all teachers to reduce the amount of assigned work for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week, in order to afford parents and pupils time to learn how to use the platform. The idea is, with a less amount of work, it will be easier for you all to get used to the app and how it works i.e. uploading work, listening to feedback etc. Teachers have also been asked to assign simple, specific tasks which are to be completed using Seesaw in order to aid the transition. Please remember, you can only do all of this with the Seesaw 'Class' app. You will be able to send me messages using your ‘Family´app. You have been sent a code to access your son's account via email.

I am aware that some parents may like to do extra work on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. If this is the case, please feel free to complete any incomplete work from days and weeks gone by or to use any of the links or resources which we have listed here before. Revision is always a good idea for Gaeilge, in fact the pupils need constant repetition to retain new language. The work links and resources that are on the website will remain here until next week. I am uploading the Irish Translations for the week here now instead of posting them everyday. You can consult them here during the week. Once next week comes, all of the work will only be assigned through Seesaw.

Once again, I want to thank you for your continued support and to remind you that if you are having any difficulty with Seesaw or indeed in any other area, please let me know and I will do all that I can to help you. Email me at lbehan@stcorbans.com

Good morning boys, mams and dads. I hope that you are all well and that you enjoyed a bit of a break from the normal home-schooling last week. The weather has been fabulous. I hope that you made the most of it. Boys, we are back again this week with some work for you to do. I know it is not easy continuing to do school work at home but you are all doing amazing work. Remember to thank the person who is helping you with your work. They are amazing too!

Mams and dads, I know the decision to keep schools closed until September, although necessary, is a difficult one to get our heads around as parents and teachers but I want to assure you that we will do all we can to help and support you in the weeks and months ahead. Our Student Council have written some messages of encouragement for the pupils. I am attaching them below if you wish to read some to your son. Here are some reminders for you.
  1. The work should take approximately one hour with lots of breaks in between tasks to aid concentration.
  2. The main focus should be on English, Maths and Irish.
  3. Play presents a multitude of learning experiences for your son so let them play to their hearts content. :-)
  4. The boys can choose their best piece of work and send it to me by email at lbehan@stcorbans.com
  5. I hope to organise a quick Zoom call for the boys later in the week for anyone who is interested. I am working on the finer details at the moment and I will update you as the week progresses.

Good morning everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and most importantly, that you and your families are all well. Boys, I hope that you all had a lovely Easter and that you enjoyed a break from your school work. I know how good you all are so I know you're working hard at washing your hands and keeping safe at home. Keep up the great work and remember how important it is to help out at home and to be kind to your families.

Parents, we are continuing to upload work on the website again from today. We are aware of the many challenges which families are facing at this time. The work we assign is to help to continue some learning for the boys but it is not designed to compound pressure at an already challenging time. For this reason, I wan to remind all parents to use your discretion when completing the work with your son.

Some reminders:
  1. We advise that the Junior Infant pupils should spend approximately one hour per day on assigned tasks with breaks being taken between them if necessary. Additional, optional activities are suggested also just for ideas.
  2. The work will be uploaded onto the website the night before it is to be completed.

Great news boys, mams and dads!!! There is no assigned work for today as a reward for all of your hard work over the last few weeks. A lovely Easter Surprise I hope. I am so proud of the boys - both how hard they have worked and how well they have adjusted to the arrangements at the moment. I am also so grateful for everything you have done as parents to keep the learning going for your son as well as coping with the day-to-day challenges this time has brought, so thank you all. I have loved receiving photos, videos and voice notes from the boys and it has been great to see the boys' lovely smiles again. You've been so supportive and I really appreciate that.

As I mentioned through Seesaw yesterday, we will not be assigning work for the duration of the Easter Holidays, however, feel free to use any of the websites/resources which we have shared with you up to now to help pass the time over the break if you wish. I am listing some more ideas here as suggested activities for the break if you are at a loss as to what to do at any stage. I hope that you and the boys enjoy the break and I will continue to upload work here again on Monday 20th April. So boys, to you and your families, continue to wash your hands, practise social distancing, stay safe and look after each other. Have a very happy Easter and be sure to enjoy any lovely Easter eggs that come your way! All the best, Ms. Donnelly.

Suggested activities for the Easter Holidays:
  • Video call or email a family member e.g. grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin.

Monday 30th March 2020

Good morning all! I hope you all had a lovely weekend and that you and all of your families are well. A very important reminder to the boys to continue their great work but most importantly to continue washing their hands thoroughly. Not long now until Easter.
Mams and dads, below, I have attached a child-friendly video about social distancing if you wish to play it for your son. Also, Minister Simon Harris was interviewed by children last week and has answered some of their difficult questions in the second link below. I'm sure the boys are asking lots of questions. If so, it might be worth a look for them. Thank you so much for all of your hard work with the boys. We hope it is helping them to keep a little routine going. Please remember, that the work we list should serve as a menu for you to choose from and really 1 hour of work is plenty for any boy at this age. Lots of play = lots of learning. Also, all pictures and videos can be enlarged when you click on them. Hover over the arrows on the videos. Thank you. :-)

There are slight variations with the pronunciation of 'th' and 'th' however, please do not worry about this. All we need is that the boys can say the "th" sound by placing their tongue between teeth, hear the sound in words and tell you words which have the sound e.g. this, there, throw, that.
Maths: Listen to the ‘Days of the Week’ song by following the link. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrVjQSaTQc4

Daffodil Day 2020

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Daffodil Day is a very significant date on the calendar for our school. You may be aware, that this year the Irish Cancer Society has cancelled all public fundraising due to the outbreak of Covid-19. This is the first time in a number of years that we are unable to fundraise as a school. Fortunately, those who wish to donate can do so online and our staff members have made personal contributions already. We understand the extremely difficult circumstances at this time, but we would encourage anyone who has a spare few euro, to go online and donate what you can to this great cause.  https://www.cancer.ie/

18th March 2020

Morning all!
I hope you and all of your families are keeping well at this difficult time. I hope the boys aren’t missing school too much! I will be listing some work here for them to complete while the school is closed. However, as Mr. Drewett explained in the text message on Monday, there is no pressure on you to get it all done. We are keenly aware of the fact that everyone’s situation is different.
The work listed will keep the boys engaged on some level with the work we have completed to date. Aside from the specific work listed, it would be very beneficial to continue to practise the boys’ phonics i.e. sounds (yellow card), digraphs (green), Tricky Words (blue) and decodable words (orange). Encourage them to write words and simple sentences to keep them moving forward.
Each day, chat about the calendar i.e. What day it is, what date it is, what month, season and the weather. (The boys can tell you all about the weather in Irish!!!)
I will also list some ideas for additional activities for you to use if you wish. These will be in the form of useful apps, games or some little activities to help pass the time.
If you need me for anything, please send a quick email to lbehan@stcorbans.com and I will revert to you as soon as possible.
In the meantime, please say hi to the boys for me. Take care of yourselves and each other,
L. Donnelly.
