Play me!

Good morning Boys!
Can you please make sure and give permission for your son to you Seesaw on Aladdin Connect, so I can send you your code by email.

If you need any help or support, please do not hesitate to email me at mmcdermott@stcorbans.com. I will do my best to reply as quickly as possible.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE!
The SET who is assigned with our class level would like to provide you with their email, should there be any boy who is struggling with their assigned work. They may be able to advise you on how to differentiate the work to meet your sons needs during this time at home.
Ms. B. Dunne bdunne@stcorbans.com

Virtual Meeting Etiquette

To help us get the most benefit from our Zoom calls, we ask that the following etiquette be adhered to by pupils involved in these sessions:
  1. Dress appropriately- regular daytime clothing
  2. Be aware of your surroundings- Pick a room that is not a bedroom and does not have traffic passing through. Be mindful of noise from other people or pets.
  3. Mute your microphone when you are not talking- only turn on the microphone if you are asked to speak. Muting the microphone when you are not speaking gives others the ability to chime in and share their thoughts without distraction or frustration.
  4. Leave the keyboard alone- the sound of your typing is distracting.
  5. Be respectful- teachers and pupils are real people who are affected by words that you say and write.
  6. Using chat- do not use chat when the teacher is talking. Be respectful at all times when using chat. Remember that you are in a classroom, even if you are not wearing a uniform.
  7. No food allowed- we do not want you dropping crumbs all over your keyboard!
  8. Stay seated and stay present- do not leave the room or talk on your phone.
  9. Be patient- this is new to a lot of people and it may take time to learn.
  10. Engage in the meeting, be present and contribute when requested.

Hi Boys,
I hope you are all looking forward to your week off. I hope the weather is great and you get to go out loads. I have put up a selection of boy's work below, from the last week or so. If there are any boys who would like to do a little bit of work during the week off, please see the following suggestions:
  1. There will be a Zoom meeting Wednesday at 11 o' clock. Can you please register for Zoom if you want to join the call.  It is not mandatory and if you don’t want to boys that is ok. I will send you a link 10 minutes before hand that will allow you to join. I've pasted a link below to give some information regarding the video-conferencing "Zoom" app that we'll use to facilitate the class zoom. I'm sure many of you are familiar with it through work or family video calls at this stage and if not, it's very user-friendly, even for "non-tech" people like myself! For this zoom call I will need agreement that the zoom call will take place in a suitable location in the home with a parent within earshot only....not present in the room.  No recording, uploading, sharing of the call in any format is allowed. I will take the acceptance of the zoom invitation as an agreement with the above guideline. Look forward to seeing all the boys on the call, it will be so good to see you after all these weeks and for you to see one another. Information re "Zoom" https://zoom.us/about
  2. RTE Home School Hub
  3. Cúla4 ar Scoil
  4. Read a book of your choice and complete a book report or complete a book report on a book that you have already read and loved. Please see attached sheet. You can send them in to me and I will look at them the week we come back.
  5. Project – The Seven Wonders of Ireland. I have attached some ideas below, to help you. Just click on each picture in the gallery to enlarge them.
  • Boys I would like you complete this project on a PowerPoint, poster board, web page or whichever you prefer. It must be about 7 places in Ireland that you feel should make the list.
  • Write an introduction to this project about Ireland and all the beautiful places we have to offer.
  • Each wonderful place should have its own page. This should contain all basic information about the wonder, some pictures and also the reason you chose it.
  • Finish with a conclusion, which should contain what you have learnt from this project.I can’t wait to see them
6. Art - Design a monument that would be worthy of a place on the list of the Seven Futuristic Wonders of the World. Design a blueprint for it. You can construct it using a medium such as clay, fabric and fibre, papier maché, recyclable materials etc.

I hope you all have a wonderful week off and that the sun shines for the whole week. I can’t wait to see you all for the Zoom call on Wednesday. It will be a bit of well-behaved fun please God.

Chat soon.
Ms. Mc Dermott

**Boys, for those of you who are interested, I am going to do a Zoom meeting next Wednesday at 11 o' clock. Can you please register for Zoom if you want to join the call. I will send you a link 10 minutes before hand that will allow you to join. I hope to see you all soon. Have a great weekend.**

  • SPHE - Boys over the next few weeks, you will be looking at the topic of gratitude. Gratitude is a skill. An attitude of gratitude is a positive way of looking at life. Gratitude can increase your happiness, teach you to be more empathetic and help you to be more thankful for everything that you have. With everything that is going on at the minute I think this is a very important topic to look at. You will be given a sheet once a week to complete on this topic. I have also attached a sheet with 20 ways to cultivate an attitude of gratitude in yourself.

  • Music - Carnival of the Animals (RTE Home School Hub) tomorrow for 5th and 6th class. If you want to boys have a look at it. It could be a lovely lesson, especially if you are into Music.
