Hi everyone, I hope you are all well. A massive well done again for sending me all of your fantastic recordings, photos and pictures through Seesaw. You are doing a terrific job!
Remember that Seesaw is our new platform for Distance Learning. Please ensure that you have it set up for your son to use. We will not be using our webpage from next week onwards. Most of you should have received your unique code for your son by now if you have ticked the permissions on Aladdin Connect. If you have not done so, please do this at your earliest convenience so that I can email a code for your son to access Seesaw.
Thank you also to those who sent me an email to confirm that their son will participate in our Zoom call on Friday. I will be sending you an email with further information on Zoom today. If any body else would like their son to participate, please send me an email to confirm so that I can sent you a link for our Zoom call. If you don't send me an email, I can't sent you a link. Again, if it doesn't suit, that's absolutely fine. There's no pressure at all. Thank you again for your patience and support.
Hope you have a lovely day!

Hi everyone!
I hope you are all well and had a lovely weekend. It was brilliant seeing and chatting with you during our Zoom call on Friday. It was great seeing your lovely faces again after all these weeks. If you couldn't make it, don't worry, we'll try to organise another Zoom call on Friday again maybe.
As you know already, from this week on the whole school will be using a new platform, Seesaw for our Distance learning. We will continue to upload suggested work on the website and on Seesaw for this week to give everybody a chance to get familiar with our new platform. This is an exciting new way of learning. We will be learning new skills of taking photos, voice recordings, video recordings and uploading them. We are going to reduce the assigned work for today and this week to give parents, pupils and us all time to learn how to use the platform. Our new learning is learning new skills of using Seesaw.
If you haven't granted permission on Aladdin connect, please do so at your earliest convenience, so that I can email your son's code to access Seesaw.
If you have any queries, there is a link in the email I sent you last week explaining how to use Seesaw. If you are still having trouble please email me lpearson@stcorbans.com and I'll do my best to help you.
Go raibh maith agaibh,
Take care and best of luck!

Monday 11th May
Hello boys, parents, guardians!
I hope you all had a lovely week and enjoyed the beautiful sunshine! It's May! A new month and a new season! It is now summer! Yay!
Thank you for those who replied regarding the Zoom call (See information note below). We are just putting out our feelers to see who might be interested, and we'd like to see if this is a runner or not for our class. If not, that's fine, please don't feel any pressure at all but if we are going to do it, we probably would aim at end of the week. It's just to say hi to everybody, touch base and allow an opportunity for any of the boys to chat to their friends and teacher. If your son is a little shy and doesn't feel comfortable to say anything, that's absolutely fine! Nobody will be put under any pressure to do or say anything. There'll be plenty of chat anyway! All we ask is that everyone is kind and show respect. It's just to see everybody's lovely faces really and is only a trial! I totally understand and appreciate that this might be a challenge in itself to organise at home. If this week doesn't suit, we can always reschedule this or another Zoom call at another stage either/also. Don't worry about background distractions and noise, there's a mute button, which can be used if necessary! Please email me your thoughts and let me know if your are interested, lpearson@stcorbans.com. Looking forward in hearing from you and I'll keep you updated on it.
Thank you as always for your continued support.
Please see today's work below.
Have a great day! Hope you get to enjoy that summer breeze and sun outside!
Take care and stay safe,
Ms.Pearson

Maths: Today we are going to learn about … ‘Data’
Data is when you collect or gather information and sort or group it. Data can be organised in many ways in everyday life, from pictograms to bar charts to bar graphs etc. In Senior Infants, your child is expected to represent and interpret data (information/objects, etc.) in two rows or columns (also in pictograms and bar charts). Please see below, hands on maths activities and games involving rows and columns, you can do with your son.
Boys, you are now pet detectives! You need to collect information, count, sort these dogs and cats and represent the information by putting it in a bar graph. Give a go at this quick interactive game. http://data.cjfallon.ie/resources/19602/activity-101/index.html
Complete Busy at Maths Big book pg. 100 (Data) (If possible, send a picture of your work, lpearson@stcorbans.com)
(Please see more fun interactive games on Data below in optional extra section.)
News: Oral language: Calendar: day, date, month, season, weather. Chat about your news.
Writing: ‘My News’: Write a page or two in News copy. Use previous format as before, but now there’s no need to skip lines anymore! I can see that your writing is improving and is so neat! Well done! You can attempt spellings in the ‘Have a go section’ at top of page or on a piece of paper. Today is Monday the 11th of May, 2020. It is a ___ day. (Describe the weather sunny, dry, wet, rainy, foggy, cloudy etc) Write a further 2-3 sentences. Encourage your son to read his news aloud when finished. Draw a picture on top of the page.
*This can be written on any day during the week (If possible, e-mail me your News, I’d love to see it)
Tricky words: Read new tricky word List 8 (continued) give, black, always, work, white, drink, first, ten, once. (See skills book/powerpoint presentation)

Look at the answers for Sounds Abound, pg. 14 Did you get them right?
Tuesday 28th April 2020
Hello everybody! I hope you and your families are all keeping well. I hope you got to play outside for a little while in the lovely sunshine. Thank you so much for all the fantastic work I've received! Well done! I'm so proud of you!
You've been learning so much about zoo animals, farm animals and dinosaurs. Later on in the week, we'll be learning some more about recipes and procedure writing. Our new concept in Maths is all about solving questions where a set of objects is more than the other, and we have to work out by how many more..See if you can work out this maths problem...If I have 7 sweets and Ms.Mc Cormack has 9 sweets, who has more? ....That's right, Ms.Mc Cormack, by how many more? ...2! well done! So I will need 2 more sweets to be the same as Ms.Cormack's, to make 9 sweets. (How to check your answer? 2 and 7 make 9) You've got it!...I saw some of your maths work from yesterday, and you got full marks! Well done! Keep it up!
Today, we will be concentrating on working out maths problems where one set of objects is less than another set and we need to work out by how many less is it...So, if there were 6 crayons in the red cup and 4 crayons in the green cup, which cup has the least amount, that means, which cup has less? ...Yes, the green cup, by how many?...2! Well done! Did you get that right? (How to check your answer: 2 and 4 make 6)
You can use crayons, spoons, straws or anything you have handy at home to work these out, should you wish to. I hope you get on ok today with your maths, if you can, let me know how you get on. You can email me your work lpearson@stcorbans.com Good luck!
(Click play on the top and enjoy the slide show of the wonderful work)
Hope you have a great day!
Take care,
Ms.Pearson

Hello everybody! I hope you are all keeping well and safe. Welcome back to distance learning. I hope you enjoyed your Easter holidays in the lovely sunny weather and didn’t eat too many Easter eggs!
I’m really looking forward in hearing from you again! You’re doing amazing and we’ll keep going as best as we can! Please feel free to send me any pictures/samples of work and I can give feedback and post it on the webpage if you so wish. I’d be delighted, as always, to see all the hard work!
Parents/guardians, I’m aware that you are very busy so please don’t feel under any pressure to complete all the work with your son. Please select the work you think would be most beneficial for your son and prioritise as you see fit. We fully understand that these are very challenging times and everybody’s situation is different. If I can help you with anything, please don’t hesitate to contact me on lpearson@stcorbans.com.

My News: Oral language: Chat about the Easter holidays. Calendar: day, date, month, season, weather.
Writing: ‘My News’: Write 3-5 sentences in News copy. (Write about the Easter holidays) Use previous format as before. Draw a picture on top of the page. (Please email your work to me, I would love to see it!) Today is Monday the 20th of April, 2020. It is a ___ day. (Describe the weather sunny, dry, wet, rainy, foggy, cloudy etc ), I had a lovely Easter….
Tricky words: Read new tricky word List 8 (first 11 words) These will be drilled over the next two weeks. try, does, tell, new, bring, much, must, goes, keep, start, write.
Sentences: Put the following words in a sentence orally: pie, could, trip
Gaeilge: Ar Scoil (School) Éist leis an gceacht (Listen to the lesson) Click on the button below
Páiste amháin, beirt pháistí, triúr páistí, ceathrar páistí, cúigear páistí (one child, two children, three children, four children, five children)
Maths: Busy at Maths Homework book pg. 34 (Time)
Maths: New Topic: ‘Time’.
Do you know..…. How many seconds are in a minute? How many minutes are in an hour? How many hours are in a day? How many days are in a week? How many days are in a year? How many months in a year? ………
(See powerpoint presentation below to find out more and see if you are right)
Can you find any clocks, watches around the house? You might notice that they can look similar or different. Some have two hands (a long hand represents the minutes) and (short hand represents the hour) or even three hands (second hand). This type of clock is called an analogue clock. A digital clock has numbers, with no hands. We are going to focus on the analogue clock.
*Talk to your child about the analogue clock.
*How many numbers are on it? What number is at the top (12), the bottom (6), and on either side (3,9)?
*How many hands are on the clock? What do you notice about the hands (one long, one short, the second hand moves every second/quickly)
(Please see powerpoint presentation and resources uploaded below to help with the teaching of (o’ clock) time. In Senior Infants, the children are only expected to know ‘o’clock’ (1 o’clock, 5 o’clock, 7 o’clock etc). To help them, show them how the short hand points to the hour and when the long hand points to 12, it is always ‘o’clock’ etc. Please feel free to show them half past if you feel it wouldn’t be too difficult for them
*Reminder to send in any pictures on the work of your favourite animal/pet to lpearson@stcorbans.com if you so wish. I’d be delighted to see them.

A message from Mr.Drewett.

- Daffodil Day 2020
- Dear Parents/Guardians,
Daffodil Day is a very significant date on the calendar for our school. You may be aware, that this year the Irish Cancer Society has cancelled all public fundraising due to the outbreak of Covid-19. This is the first time in a number of years that we are unable to fundraise as a school. Fortunately, those who wish to donate can do so online and our staff members have made personal contributions already. We understand the extremely difficult circumstances at this time, but we would encourage anyone who has a spare few euro, to go online and donate what you can to this great cause. https://www.cancer.ie
A message from the SET team:

It's the Easter holidays!!! Yippee!!
Boys, parents/guardians, a massive well done to you all! We've made it to the Easter holidays!
I wish to thank you most sincerely for your positivity and support throughout these very trying and challenging times. It is very much appreciated. Your perseverance and determination have been both inspiring and admirable. You should all be very proud of yourselves! Boys, your work has been outstanding over the past couple of weeks. I have loved hearing from you and seeing pictures of you and your amazing work. I’m sure your friends in your class were delighted to see each other too. It was lovely seeing those smiles and it sure brought a smile to my face also! You’re on your Easter holidays now for two weeks! (until Monday 20th April)
Keep washing your hands and practise social distancing. Continue to be kind and helpful with one another at home. I know you will!
I hope you and your families have a safe, healthy and Happy Easter! – It’s well deserved!
As a reward for your super work!...
You’ve earned DOUBLE GOLDEN TIME! - You have NO SCHOOL WORK TODAY!
It might a nice idea to perhaps make and send an Easter card/write a letter/a face message (if possible) to your grandparent(s), a relative or a friend today or during the Easter holidays. Let them know that you are thinking of them. They’d be thrilled to hear from you!
Relax, enjoy playing with your favourite toys and if you can have fun making cards/writing letters!
Well done!
I'm looking forward to being in touch again after Easter.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
Ms. Pearson.

Check out David's excellent work on pet parrots, pets he would like to have. He even picked names for them, Jack and Jolly! Excellent sentences and phonic work. Beautiful writing too! David is working hard with his maths and learning all about clocks from his big sister. We will be learning all about time after Easter, so you might get familiar with all the clocks in your house before we explore it more! Super work David!
Noah wrote about Ethan's pet fish and how he looked after it while Ethan was on holiday. He's enjoying role-play and dressing up as a circus ringmaster! I'd love to be in the audience at that circus! He's being the best big brother and helping his little sister to paint. The tooth fairy arrived as Noah lost another front tooth! Lovely smile Noah! Keep up the super work!
Seán's excellent work on his pet fish! Brilliant Seán! Well done!
The birthday boy celebrating his birthday at home with his family! Hope you had a great birthday. That chocolate cake looks delicious! Check out Karl's very creative Easter art and craft! Fabulous Karl!

Monday 23rd March 2020
Good morning everyone!
I hope you all had a great weekend and enjoyed some of the lovely sunshine.
I know that it must be difficult for the boys not being able to see and play with their friends and schoolmates, and so if you would like to share any piece of your son’s work, art, a photo of him doing any of the activities, please send it to my email address lpearson@stcorbans.com and I’d be delighted to share it on this page for everyone to see and enjoy. Also, if you’d like me to give any feedback on your son’s work, I’d be happy to do so also. We all need to celebrate their great efforts and hard work.
The work for today is listed below. Again, please don’t feel under any pressure to get all the work completed, this is a guideline and just do what you can.
Maths: Busy at Maths pg.32 (Homework Book)
English: Tricky words Lists 1-7 (Use flashcards and see Skills book for lists)
Write sentences in English copy: Write a sentence for each of the following words train, they, slid. Draw a small picture for each sentence on the space on top of the page. This can be done within the next three days. (Please find a new English project copy in your son’s school bag. It has a small piece of paper glued on the top of each page giving the words for each week.)
My News: Chat to your son about the calendar and his News: day, date, month, season, weather and what he did at the weekend.
Write 5-10 sentences about ‘My News’ in News copy. He may use the previous format, but we are living through history now so it might be an idea to include the date also in his news, e.g. Today is Monday the 23rd of March 2020. It is a ___ day. (Describe the weather) etc. (See sample below)
Draw a picture(s) on the space on top of the page. (For spelling attempts, you can use the ‘Have-a-go section’ on top of the page or use a separate paper/whiteboard)
*A few reminders in helping your son to try his best to keep his writing neat and tidy.
* Use your little sayings/letter rhymes for correct letter formation (See Skills Book/Attached sheets below)
Keep all letters the same size, i.e. 'small guys’ : a,e,i,o,u,n,m,w,r,s,c,v;.‘tall guys’ touch the top line, i.e: d,b,k,l,h,f,; ‘medium guy’ almost touches the top line, i.e. ‘t’: ‘fall guys’ touch the bottom line, i.e. p,q,g,j,y;
* Write on the line.
*Use finger spacing between each word.
*Check for capital letters at beginning of a sentence, day of a week, month, person’s name etc.
*Full stops at the end of each sentence.
Religion: Grow in Love pg.38. Complete/finish this page if it’s not done so already.
Listen to the story ‘Jesus Calms the Storm’, click on the link Vimeo.com/141465626 / click download file below and read the poem ‘The Storm on the Sea’ together with your son and talk about the story and poem afterwards. (See attached Poem below)
*Please note: The boys are invited to share a photo or a drawing of his pet or favourite animal. He can write 3-5 sentences about it underneath his picture. This can be done in their middle page of your son’s English copy or indeed any page/paper. Some helpful prompts for the sentences: What is your pet/favourite animal? What is it’s name? Describe it/What does it look like? What does it eat? Where does it sleep? /Where does it live? How do you look after it?/ What does it like doing? etc. This may be done throughout this and next week.
For today, your son can be thinking about what animal/pet he will draw and write about.

Friday 20th March 2020
Dia dhaoibh!
It’s Friday! Well done boys and thank you parents/guardians for your patience and support during the first week of homeschool learning.
I can’t let this week go by without wishing a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to a boy in our class, Max S. who turned 7 years old on St.Patrick’s Day! Lá Breithe Shona Duit!
Happy Mother's Day to all the Mammies! You're doing a wonderful job!
I hope everybody has a lovely and safe weekend.
Here’s the work for today.
Maths: Money Busy at Maths (Big Book) pgs. 105 & 106 (Just to note, we skipped a few pages, we are going to focus on ‘Money’ for the next week or so and we will go back to cover Time and Data at a later stage) Encourage your child to explore, examine and identify some euro coins, 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c (50c, €1, €2)
My News: Write about ‘My News’ in News copy. Try to use the format that the boys are used to, e.g. Today is _____ .(day of the week, e.g. Friday) It is a _____ day. (Describe the weather, e.g. sunny, cold, cloudy, warm, dry, rainy, foggy, frosty, etc) I’ve attached a sample of work that the boys can copy/transcribe into their News copy. This is only a sample, of course you can alter it if you so wish. Encourage the boys to read the sentences before writing them. Once these sentences are written, encourage the boys to write a further 2-3 sentences of their own independently. (extension: a further 5 sentences) Encourage the boys to attempt to spell words and ‘have a go’ at writing them in the space at the top of the page (‘Have-a-go-section’). This can be done on a separate piece of paper/mini whiteboard and marker either. Once their news is written (approx. 5-10 sentences altogether) they can draw a picture(s) about their news in the space on top of the page(s) also. Those boys that may need some extra assistance, you may need to prepare their News copy before they start, by writing the first letter of each word and blanks so that they can fill them in and write the correct letter for each blank. (Please see attached sample of this below)
Art: Remember it’s Mother’s Day on Sunday!:) Make a handprint on the Mother’s Day sheet (in homework folder/ see attached sheet below) paint your hand and make a handprint on the bottom of the sheet of paper or trace over your hand using pencil and colour it in with crayons and/or finish colouring in bouquet of flowers. Fold on the dotted lines until you make a bouquet of flowers. (See attached sheets below)
Golden Time: As a reward for good behaviour! They say play is the work of children!
Encourage any of the following:
Optional Extra: Choose any of the suggested activities below and/or on the grid if you so wish (This is optional)
