Tuesday 12th of May 2020
Good morning boys,
I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. Unfortunately it wasn't as warm as the weekend but I hope you still got out for some exercise. If you have a Fitbit or an app to record your steps, keep track of them this week as we want to see who can hit 50,000 steps over the week! Just for fun, I'll put up a link at the end of the week and you can put in how many steps you did and we can see how our class is doing!
Hope you are all keeping busy.
Stay safe,

I was sent some pictures from one of our boys today and he has allowed me to share them on our class page. He has been very busy baking. I am very jealous! I better keep practising. My cakes and brown bread didn't look as good as this! Check out the pictures below!

Good morning boys,
Happy midterm! I hope everyone is doing well! One of the boys sent me the video of some of you taking part in the football challenge with Naas GAA. It was fantastic and I'm proud of all of you!
Enjoy the midterm break and make sure to help your parents out at home. I am going to keep practicing my baking over the midterm and hopefully I'll be able to make some tasty treats to show you when we're back.
Thursday's homework corrections are attached below. They also include sample answers for the geography and the science work.
Stay safe and look after yourselves. I'm missing you all!
Ms. Roche
English:
P.E: Be active – running on spot (or garden if you lucky enough) for 30 seconds straight and build up to 5 mins over the next few weeks. Invent a new game using only a football/basketball or rugby ball. Optional Joe Wicks or Cosmic Yoga.
S.P.H.E: Continue with your gratitude notebook (template attached below if you need it)
Geography: Read information on climate change on the following website. https://climatekids.nasa.gov/climate-change-meaning/ Complete attached Climate Change sheet (not connected to website above). E.g Day - Activity
Monday - I will switch off the light when I leave a room.
Religion: Read pages 90 - 93. Reflect on how you treat others by your words and actions. Pope Francis frequently tweets, read some of his tweets on pg.92 and use one to make a poster.

Good morning boys,
It is nearly Friday! I was back baking again yesterday and have made some brown bread! It was good but I need to keep practicing and make it as tasty as my own mother's brown bread. I hope all of you are doing well. Thank you again for your emails. I love to see how you are getting on.
Stay safe,
Ms Roche
Please note: Wednesday's homework corrections are attached below.
English:
Other: to be completed by Friday

Using the information from the video, in your SESE copies, list the steps required to separate a mixture of pepper and salt. (Draw diagrams where possible)

Tuesday 21st of April 2020
Good morning boys,
I hope you enjoyed learning about nonsense poetry yesterday. Today we are studying a really famous nonsense poem and moving onto a new theme in Irish - An Aimsir! In Irish to help you with the comprehension, I have attached notes with the translations but try and read it independently first, like what we would have done in class! This will be good practice for next year. Also remember page 162 has all the key vocabulary and sentences for the chapter translated so use this too! This weather has been so gorgeous. I hope you are all getting lots of exercise! Have a great day and email me if you need anything.
Ms Roche.

Good morning boys,
Welcome back to school! We are starting our last term in sixth class and even though we are not together in the classroom, we are going to keep learning and hopefully still have some fun! I hope you all had a lovely relaxing Easter and ate lots of chocolate! I have some lovely activities planned for you for this week. Today, we are learning about a new poetry genre in English, writing a short story in Irish and finishing off what we were learning about with the B.O.M.D.A.S rule (Brackets of Multiplication, Division, Addition, Subjection) in maths from before the break. I have attached teaching notes for some subjects to help you! Please read them, they should make the new learning easier! If you have any questions or are stuck on anything, just email me.
Enjoy your day,
Ms Roche

Special Easter message from Mr Drewett:
Good morning boys,
Today we get our Easter holidays!!! I will not be posting any work over the next two weeks during the holidays but all the work from the last two and a half weeks will be left on the page for anyone who is looking for something to keep them busy. (Remember there are links to step by step art lessons at the side of this page and audio books to listen too).
I know how hard it has been for everyone over the past few weeks and how much of an adjustment it has been. I am very proud of all of you. I want to get back to school and from all the wonderful emails, I know that you really want that too. We have a lot of really exciting activities to look forward to next term, so fingers crossed we get back to school soon.
What I need you to keep doing over the next two weeks will really impact how soon our life goes back to normal. I need all of you to keep washing your hands, coughing into your elbow and to keep up your social distancing. I know how hard it is with the social distancing but it really is working so we have to keep it up. I received emails from our students about setting up exercise routines in their gardens and practising their skills for class leagues! We all want to beat the other two sixth classes so maybe start including some exercise into your routine.
If we were in school today, it would be a half day, we would be having a class party and an Easter egg hunt, so to make it a little bit special I have a little surprise for everyone. Keep reading below to find out what it is. As always corrections from yesterday's work have been attached, Have a great rest over the Easter holidays, eat lots of chocolate and hopefully I will see you all soon.
Stay safe!
Ms Roche
SURPRISE!
No written work today! Today all the boys in the school are being asked to do something kind for their parents at home and to do something creative. Maybe choose one or two from the list below or think of something else to help out your parents at home! Enjoy your Easter holidays!
- Empty the dishwasher
- Clean your room
- Facetime a relative
- Design a card to cheer someone up
- Help your parents with making the dinner or bake something
- Write a kind text/email to your granny/granddad.

Hello boys,
I hope you all had a great day yesterday and weren't tricked too many times by your siblings or parents. Can you believe we are nearly at our Easter holidays??? It feels so weird not being in class and having a chat about all our plans for the break. Thank you so much for the lovely emails that I have received from each of you and from your parents. It is wonderful to see how you are getting on with the work and just to hear what you are up to. I am missing you all so much and it is wonderful to hear from each of you. I understand that some of you don't like the idea of your work being displayed on our class page so I won't post any unless you specifically write that I can share it on our page. As always,
corrections from yesterday's work have been attached.
Take care and keep washing those hands,
Ms Roche.

Wednesday 1st of April 2020

Good morning boys,
Happy Wednesday! Keep a look out today for any pranks, remember it is the 1st of April. If we were in school now, I would be giving you all those fake mini chocolate grape eggs and I'm sure you would all be trying to trick me with spiders and mice! Corrections from Tuesday's work have been attached. I've also attached a very short powerpoint with about six slides from April Fools Day Traditions from around the world which you might like to read for fun.
Missing you all so much,
Ms Roche.

Monday 30th of March 2020

Good morning boys,
I hope everyone is safe and healthy at home and you all had a lovely weekend. I had a very relaxing weekend and even had time to bake. I made some really tasty Mars bar Rice Krispie slices! They were delicious!
Just in case anyone wants any of the previous week's work, it is still accessible underneath today's post. All the work will stay on our class page and just keep getting pushed down further on the page in case you want to look back over something or attempt an activity from the previous week. I would love to see some of your work from home, especially those fantastic Geography leaflets that you designed last week so please send them onto me when you have a chance.
Have a great day,
Ms Roche
Corrections:
As always boys, the corrections from Friday's work have been attached below. E.I.P answers for days 111-117 are also attached. Mental Maths Week 24 and Week 25 Corrections are also attached. The other 6th classes are on different stages of E.I.P and Mental Maths and this was the reason for the delay in sharing these corrections. Hope they help! Ms Roche

Good morning boys,
Well done on completing the Irish grammar test! The results were fantastic! I am so proud of you all. Keep up the great work! Corrections from Wednesday's work have been attached. We are going to take a break from revising Irish grammar today and look at a new story in our Irish book. I have attached a worksheet to help with the new story which includes key vocabulary and some translations.
Also, I have attached a link on this page to FREE audio stories from David Walliams, who is releasing a different story every day. They are about 15 mins long and are based on the short stories from the 'World's Worst Children' series. I listened to one yesterday while I was cooking the dinner and it was very funny!
As always, email me if you have any questions!
Enjoy your day,
Ms Roche.

Good morning boys,
I hope everyone is doing well at home! I am really missing you all so much! If you'd like to send a photo of you completing any of your activities at home, I can share it here on our class page! Just politely ask your parents to email me the picture. Remember even though we are learning at home, we are still one big class and we are all here to help and support one another! So today we have our first online quiz and in Irish (my favourite)! I would really like all of you to attempt it, if you can, so I can see where our understanding of the past tense is at. You don't need to be nervous as it is multiple choice quiz. Remember to attempt all of the questions! Also, corrections from Tuesday's work have been attached. Have a great day boys and email me if you need anything!

Weekend catch up!
Happy weekend class,
I have got a few emails asking about any tips to help our classmates who are feeling a bit anxious at the moment! Firstly, it is completely normal to feel a little bit scared or worried. Everyone is feeling like that and you are not on your own! Everything will work out but it is just going to take a little bit of time. We all need to stay calm and keep following those great guidelines that the experts are giving us. Remember to keep washing those hands and to try remain 2 metres apart from each other. I know it is hard and some of you feel like this has been going on for ages but we cannot become careless now. I would really recommend getting into a routine or organising a timetable to help structure your day.
For example;
9 - 10am Get up, breakfast, make your bed,
10-11am Written work
11-12pm Exercise (walking, games, completing yoga, etc.)
12-1pm Lunch
1-2 pm Reading and other written work
2-3pm Household chores
Two websites which I have found really good to help get us moving and take our mind off what is going on are;
1. The Body Coach Kids 5 minute workouts (no equipment needed)
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLyCLoPd4VxBvPHOpzoEk5onAEbq40g2-k
2. Cosmic kids yoga - Focus on mindfulness (no equipment needed)
https://www.youtube.com/user/CosmicKidsYoga
Remember your classmates are still here for each of you but it might be from afar. Take care and mind one another.

Our digital classroom - Started March 2020
During this time, it can be very lonely working from home but just remember that all the other boys in the classroom are feeling the exact same as you. On Wednesday, I was sent these pictures from Oisín and they show how he is engaging with this new style of learning. He has shared some great ideas to keep you busy. Let me know how you are getting on and if your parents are able to send me a picture of you hard at work, I will share it with the class.

This week is Seachtain na Gaeilge and we are helping lots of classes speak Irish while playing different games in the hall.
We have also learned about traditional Irish instruments and listened to traditional music in the hall. Ms Dunne and Mr Nugent visited our school and played some great tunes for us. We learned about reels and jigs and saw all the different Irish instruments.
Ms Duffy organised yoga as Gaeilge for us which we had never done before but it was so much fun!
On Tuesday we took part in a Tráth na gCeist but are waiting to find out the lucky winners. The winners will get one night of written homework.
We have learned two Irish dances with Ms Roche but our céilí has been postponed until later in the year due to Health and Safety reasons but we had lots of fun practicing in our classroom.
One of the boys in our class got to read the news in Irish over the intercom. He was really good and made us very proud. We all cheered when he arrived back into our classroom.
We also entered a poster competition were we had to draw a picture to match a seanfhocail. Ms Roche's favourite seanfhocail was "Mol an óige agus tiocfaidh sí" which means praise the young and they will flourish.
Next week, we will get to take part in the longest kick and longest puck competition as it is too wet this week.
